PinkDrive NPC mobilises to support the call for Mass COVID-19 Testing

PinkDrive NPC, a significant player in the gender related cancer sector has joined forces with the National Department of Health (NDoH) to bring COVID-19 testing and screening to targeted hot spots in Gauteng, Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.   As concerns grow over locally transmitted cases of COVID-19, PinkDrive will be providing mobile screening vehicles and medical staff to assist with the call for the roll out of mass testing.

“We are now entering a new phase in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Around 10 000 field workers will be visiting homes in villages, towns, and cities to screen residents for COVID-19 symptoms,” President Cyril Ramaphosa said Government will in the coming days roll out a large-scale screening, testing, tracing, and a medical management programme, to manage the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Health Minister Zweli Mkhize explained the decision to intensify the testing of possible COVID-19 patients was aimed at drastically reducing local transmissions of the virus.

“We have mobilised all our resources and appealed to Corporates, Foreign Embassies and Philanthropic Organisations to partner us by funding the initiative to support the NDoH at this critical time. We would like to thank those organisations that have heeded the call. These include African Bank, the Austrian Embassy SA, Citadel Philanthropy Foundation, Hollywood Bets, Investec, Mi-Way, Numatic SA, OUTsurance, Standard Bank, Super Group and Vedanta Zinc International.  We are incredibly humbled by the commitment of these organisations by partnering with the PinkDrive in the COVID-19 testing rollout call by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize.

Like all health professionals on the frontline of this pandemic we salute the PinkDrive medical staff and management who have selflessly taken up the challenge to provide these screening services to the South African communities.” Shares Noelene Kotschan, CEO and Founder of PinkDrive.

The nature of the coronavirus epidemic means that it has impacted on every single area of our lives, not just our health and mental wellbeing, but also the economies of our households and even education. African Bank salutes these brave field workers for their incredible efforts and commitment. We are so proud and humbled to be able to support PinkDrive and the National Department of Health. It is at times like this when we really see the courage and resilience of our nation and truly see what can be accomplished when we stand together to support those most vulnerable in our society,” says African Bank’s Senior Manager: CSI,  Kennedy Dembetembe.

“For more than ten years, PinkDrive has made the health of vulnerable South Africans their priority. The thought is simple: ‘early detection will help prolong a life’. While the organisation’s historical role has been cancer detection, in these times of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has broadened its mission to prevent the further spread of the virus. PinkDrive is now screening and testing for COVID-19 in partnership with government. To assist in these efforts, the Citadel Philanthropy Foundation has partnered with PinkDrive by providing funding to increase testing capacity in some of our country’s most vulnerable communities. For us to be stronger together, health is vital. This virus and has shown us now, more than ever, South Africa’s ability to mount a remarkable response to any challenge we face as a nation.” Andrew Möller, CEO, Citadel.

Hollywoodbets’ Transformation Consultant Babongile Mkhize is thrilled that the company is able to play such an important role in assisting those who are truly in need. “At Hollywoodbets we firmly believe in supporting our communities through our annual My Community Programme where hundreds of beneficiaries around South Africa are supported each year. Basically, each Hollywoodbets branch supports one charitable organisation and one development sports team so we can create change where we work. Right now, with the situation in our country being what it is, it is important for all of us to unite and do our part to ensure that our people are protected from the spread of COVID-19. We believe in the importance of offering free testing to those who are unable to afford it, because it will play an incredibly important role in stopping the virus from spreading in the long run. When PinkDrive approached us with this opportunity we gladly got involved because we have worked with them many times in the past, so we have faith that they will help change the lives of people in these communities who need it most! Thank you to all of their staff on the ground who will be going out and working hard to keep people safe,” said Mkhize.

“Investec is proud to be associated with PinkDrive in all parts of their work and appreciate the significant impact they have in the communities in which they operate. We are grateful to be able to contribute to the efforts of both PinkDrive and the National Department of Health in the delivery of vital Covid-19 screening and testing at this time. Furthermore, we salute all those selfless and courageous South Africans on the frontline of this pandemic and wish them and their loved ones strength in these trying times” said Lesley-Anne Gatter, People and Organisation at Investec.
