Policy on Pink Drive Mobile Mammography Services
- The RSSA supports Pink Drive in its efforts to increase breast cancer awareness.
-
The RSSA supports Pink Drive in providing mobile mammographic breast screening to sectors of the population who neither have access to a mammographic screening unit nor the funds to pay for the mammogram.
-
The RSSA supports the provision of mammography to staff of corporate sponsors when those staff do not have a medical fund.
-
The RSSA recommends that funded patients, who have access, should attend a fixed mammography service, as the latter provides breast screening with both mammography(with additional views when indicated) and ultrasound (when indicated), for a single fee and usually in the same appointment.
-
The RSSA recommends that symptomatic patients or patients with positive clinical examinations should be referred to fixed full service facilities.
-
Any financial arrangements between radiologists and Pink Drive should be guided by the Rules of the HPCSA and tax legislation.
